It is not easy to distinguish between male and female map turtles when they are in the juvenile stage. Generally speaking, at least after two or three years of breeding, it is easier to distinguish between male and female. Differentiation can be mainly from the following aspects:
1, tail distinction: male and female tortoises have a relatively large difference in appearance. Especially their tails, the male turtle's tail will be relatively thick, but the female turtle's tail is relatively thin and short.
2. Differences in the positions of excretory holes: Furthermore, the positions of their excretory holes are different. The position of the excretory hole of the male turtle is closer to the tail, while the position of the excretory hole of the female turtle is farther from the tail.
3, the difference between the plastron: their plastron is also different, the male tortoise's plastron has a more obvious depression, while the female tortoise's plastron has no depression.
4. Differences in body size: In terms of body size, the differences between female and male turtles are also relatively large. However, if you compare from this aspect, you need to use the same age of the map turtle. The size of female turtles will be larger than that of male turtles, especially after adulthood, the length of female turtles can be about 25 centimeters, but the length of male turtles is only about 15 centimeters, which is easier to judge.
Map turtle male and female can be mixed together, but need to pay attention to space and food problems. If it is mixed, the number should not be too large. Moreover, it should be noted that the size of female turtles will be relatively large, and a large enough container should be prepared according to their size and quantity. Then there is the problem of food, mixed breeding needs to provide them with enough food to avoid fighting with each other.
