Archerfish is a fish of the genus Archerfish of the family Archeridae, with a body length of about 20 cm. Its body is nearly oval, the head is relatively flat, the snout is very sharp, and the body is laterally flat. The eyes are large and can see objects on the surface and in the air, which is very helpful for them to aim and shoot water. The mouth is retractable and the lower jaw protrudes.
The reason why archerfish can spray water is entirely due to the special structure of the mouth. It has a special groove at the top of its mouth to form a pipe, somewhat similar to the barrel of a water gun. When it closes the gills quickly, it can spray the water column along the pipeline at high speed, with a range of about 1 meter. Its tongue is similar to a valve, usually against the top to prevent water from spraying, when spraying water can also control the angle and direction.
Archerfish like animal bait, mainly prey on various insects, especially flies, mosquitoes, moths and so on on branches or grass leaves. Because of the uniqueness of the eyes, we can see objects above the water surface, and when we find the prey, we will slowly approach, aim within the range, and then spray water columns to attack insects and knock them into the water. When an insect falls into the water, it can eat it.
Archerfish mainly lives in the Indian Ocean to the Pacific Ocean, and is distributed in tropical coastal areas and rivers. I like the water temperature in the 25-30 C environment, the water temperature can not be higher than 36 C, nor lower than 20 C, otherwise it will affect its growth. They usually inhabit places with abundant vegetation and often move on the surface of the water, which is more convenient for them to hunt.
