Herman tortoises take 3-5 years to reach adulthood. They are small in size, so they develop faster. If it is a Herman tortoise living in the wild, it will take about 5 years to become an adult. If they are artificially raised Herman tortoises, they may only need about 3 years to mature without hibernation.
When Hermann tortoises mate, males constantly chase females and bite their legs or heads, so when they mate, breeders need to observe carefully to avoid injuries to females. Because of their small size, Herman tortoises produce a small number. For example, the smaller Western Herman tortoises can only produce 3 eggs at a time, while the larger Eastern Herman tortoises can produce 5-8 eggs at a time.
