The reproductive mode of guppies is ovoviviparous, which is different from oviparous fish. They are small fry at birth. When young fish are born, they are very small and their swimming ability is very weak. It takes at least 1 to 2 days for it to swim normally. Small fry are delicate and have little defensive ability. In order to ensure their normal growth, small fry need to be fed in isolation. If there are other fish in the tank, the fry can easily be eaten as live bait. Even parent fish may eat small fry. Therefore, other fish should be fished out before the female gives birth. Aft that production of the female fish is finished, the female fish is fish out, and the small fry is raised separately.
Small fry can not be raised alone, is very likely to be eaten. If the tank can not be separated, we should try to create a hidden place for small fry. Generally speaking, planting water plants in the fish tank is the best way. Small fry can hide between water and grass, not easy to be found by other fish, and will not be eaten as food. Moreover, guppies belong to the upper fish and will not easily move to the bottom of the water. Small fish hide in the aquatic plants near the bottom of the fish tank, which is very safe. As long as the fry hide well, even if they do not separate tanks, they can survive. When the fish grow up, they don't have to worry about being eaten.
