Winter is a special period in the process of breeding alligator snapping turtles. The snapping turtle can enter a state of hibernation or not, and can be adjusted according to the water temperature. In nature, snapping turtles generally end their hibernation around March, when the temperature is more suitable. If they are raised in captivity, the time when they end hibernation is not certain, and it is related to the specific water temperature. When the water temperature is higher than 15 degrees, the snapping turtle will basically end its hibernation. Above 20 degrees, they will start to eat.
When the snapping turtle ends hibernation, it starts eating. However, the specific time is not certain. First of all, it will be related to the surrounding water temperature. Generally speaking, they will start eating when the water temperature is higher than 20 degrees. If the temperature is low, they are not easy to eat even if they wake up. In addition, there are individual differences in the time when they start eating, different snapping turtles start eating at different times, sometimes 3-5 days after the end of hibernation will start eating, sometimes about a week after the start of eating.
However, it should be noted that when feeding snapping turtles at the beginning, they should not feed too much, otherwise they may suffer from indigestion. In addition, in order to avoid indigestion, they can choose some relatively easy to digest food, and then return to normal feeding after they slowly adapt.
