There are many kinds of tortoises, and their requirements for temperature are not consistent. Tortoises living in tropical areas prefer high temperature environment to those in temperature areas. Usually, the temperature should be maintained between 26-32 degrees Celsius, which can meet the needs of most tortoises, and the night temperature can be 2-3 degrees Celsius lower.
Although tortoises live on land, they also prefer humid environments. If the tortoise is native to desert areas, the humidity requirement is slightly lower, which can be maintained between 40-60%, while the tortoise in rainforest areas needs about 60-80% humidity. In some dry places, you need to install a humidifier to moisturize. In addition, you can also put a water basin in the breeding box to facilitate its drinking and bathing.
Like terrapins, tortoises need a certain amount of light in the process of growth, especially ultraviolet rays to ensure that they synthesize various vitamins and promote the absorption of calcium. Long-term lack of light will lead to soft nail disease. It usually needs to be equipped with three kinds of lights, UVA light to its back, UVB light to provide ultraviolet light, ceramic light is responsible for temperature control.
Tortoises prefer vegetarian food and occasionally eat insects. It is usually fed turtle food, but also a variety of collocation, but also to supplement grass powder and calcium powder, occasionally can feed a little vegetables and fruits. It should be noted that the acidity of feeding food must not be too high, otherwise it will lead to picky eating, and will cause abnormal acid excretion, but also may suffer from stones.
