Breeding razor turtles need to pay attention to the problem of water level. Therefore, before breeding them, it is better to know their attributes. Razor turtles are a very typical deep water turtle, so they need not only water, but also deep water, which is not conducive to their growth in very shallow water. This requires us to prepare a deeper container before breeding. Generally speaking, it is enough to prepare a container with a height of 1 meter or more, and the depth of water can be controlled at about 1 meter.
However, although razor turtles are a kind of deep water turtles, it does not mean that they can stay in the water all the time. They also need to come out of the water to bask in the sun. Proper basking in the sun is helpful to their health and growth. A basking table can be placed in the water, so that it is more convenient for them to climb up and bask in the sun.
Breeding razor turtles, in the winter is a period of special attention. Some species of turtles need to hibernate in winter, but razor turtles do not necessarily need to hibernate in winter, whether they hibernate depends on the water temperature environment. They will not hibernate if the water temperature remains high. At this time, they can be maintained normally, and they can be kept in deep water all the time, which is the same as the maintenance method in other seasons.
However, if you want to put them into hibernation, then the best water temperature control to 10-15 degrees. In their hibernating state, although they are deep water turtles, the water should not be too deep, too deep water may cause them to drown. Therefore, it is more appropriate to use shallow water to raise them when they hibernate. In addition, some moist sphagnum moss can be placed in the container, which is more breathable and can play a role in moisturizing.
