In the Yangtze River system and its affiliated lakes, there are about 350 species of fish. Among them, there are 324 species of freshwater fish, far exceeding the total number of freshwater fish in other rivers in China. In addition, there are 10 kinds of migratory fish across the estuary, such as eel, Songjiang perch, as well as upstream migration of Chinese sturgeon and shad. There are also 16 species of saltwater freshwater fish living in estuarine areas.
1. Acipenser sinensis: Acipenser sinensis is a fish of the family Acipenseridae of the class Osteichthyes. It is also the largest fish in the Yangtze River. Therefore, it is called the fish king of the Yangtze River. It is spindle-shaped as a whole, with a pointed head and a long snout. As a benthic fish, its feeding habits are very narrow, mainly feeding on fish and crustaceans, and stopping feeding during spawning period.

This kind of fish generally inhabits in the middle and lower layers of the bottom of the water, rarely reaches the living layer, usually hides in the aquatic plants, and has a certain phototaxis. Its reproductive capacity is amazing, and it will multiply in large numbers before winter, which can last for 3-4 months.
3. Shad: Shad is a kind of fish that lives in the sea. In late spring and early summer, it will migrate upstream to breed. The young fish will hide in rivers and lakes to grow. Those that grow to 150 mm will occasionally enter the sea. This kind of fish mostly feeds on plankton, can also eat shrimp and diatoms, and is distributed in many waters of our country.
4. Miichthys miiuy: The scientific name of Miichthys miiuy is Leiocassis longirostris. It is a demersal fish that usually lives in slow-flowing bends. It will lurk on the bottom during the day and come out to feed at night. It mostly feeds on aquatic insects and crustaceans, although it is distributed in many waters of China, but mainly in the Yangtze River system.
