The golden-headed turtle cannot live in the water for a long time. First of all, it belongs to a semi-aquatic turtle, and it is relatively dependent on land, except for the period of juvenile turtles living entirely in the water, other periods of its dependence on water is not high.
From the point of view of appearance, the golden-headed turtle's foot webbing is relatively small, and its carapace is relatively flat, so it is not suitable for the appearance of surviving in the water. Moreover, its water quality is not good, and its swimming ability is not strong. If it soaks in the water for a long time, it is easy to cause nail rot, and it is also easy to suffer from suffocation, drowning, and other accidents. Therefore, it cannot live in an area with a deep water level for a. But if the water level is relatively shallow, not over the back of the turtle, and there is a sunning platform, then such an environment is suitable for its growth.
Generally speaking, the water level of one to two centimeters just below the turtle's back is the most suitable for them. As a semi-water turtle, the golden-headed turtle itself lives in shallow water environments such as rivers, shoals and shrubs in the wild, and it is difficult to adapt to the environment with deep water level. Its water is not strong, forced to keep in deep water, prone to accidents. Therefore, in order to respect its natural habits, the water level can be higher than the turtle's back or one to two centimeters higher.
