The third lake cichlids do not refer to a single fish, but to all cichlid fish that grow in the three Great Lakes of East Africa, namely Lake Malawi, Lake Tanganyika and Lake Victoria. They total more than 200 genera and more than 2000 species. Different varieties of body length is not the same. Some of these large varieties can be 60-70 cm long. The body length of the common medium varieties is between 20-30 cm, and the body length of the small varieties is about 10 cm.
The life span of the third lake cichlids is also related to its species. Some of the longer-lived species can live up to 15-20 years. Most of the more common varieties have a life span of 4-10 years. Generally speaking, except for a few individual breeds, their life span and body size are positively correlated. The larger the breed, the longer the life span, and the smaller the breed, the shorter the life span.
How to Raise Three Lakes Cichlids Well
If you want to raise three lakes cichlids well, you must first determine its species, and then use appropriate water according to the species. Most of them like weak alkaline water, and the PH of water should be maintained above 7.5 when they are cultured. If the bream is raised, the PH of the water should be maintained above 8.0. The water temperature should be controlled between 21 and 29 degrees Celsius, not too low. If the temperature is very low in winter, they need to use heating rods to maintain the water temperature so as not to freeze them.
