Domestic turtles do not have to hibernate. For this animal, hibernation is a kind of physical preservation of the matrix, the cold climate in the wild environment, food is relatively scarce, so through hibernation can better pass the winter, and when domesticated can maintain a constant temperature, but also can provide adequate food, so there is no need to hibernate.
1. Pay attention to selection: Not all turtles need to hibernate. If they are newly bought hatchlings, the significance of hibernation is not great. Moreover, due to poor physical development, forced hibernation may lead to their death. Generally, only adult turtles that have been raised for several years can hibernate, and they should also choose healthy ones, not poor ones.
2. Feeding in advance: During hibernation, the tortoise will completely stop eating, and can't eat too much for a period of time after waking up, so be sure to feed it enough food before hibernation. Usually feed a little more fish and shrimp in late autumn, with a small amount of vegetables, in preparation for hibernation before two weeks, need to slowly stop eating.
3. Control the temperature: Since it is hibernation, be sure to ensure that the temperature is low, otherwise it will easily wake up. It is usually placed in a place where the room temperature is about 5 degrees Celsius, and too cold will also affect its survival. During hibernation, the water tank should be changed once a week, about half of it each time, and some wet sand should be put at the same time.
