Mickey fish are ovoviviparous fish. It reproduces in a different way than normal fish. After the female fish lays eggs, the male fish fertilizes the eggs in the water, and then the fertilized eggs develop into young fish in the water. When Mickey fish reproduce, the female does not lay her eggs directly in the water. But aft that male fish is fertilized to the female fish, the fertilize egg remains in the female fish body to develop. When the development is complete, the female fish gives birth to a millet fish. When sexually mature males and females are mixed, they can reproduce on their own. When the female is observed to have a bulging abdomen and dark fetal spots, she is about to give birth.
Mickey fish is small fish after birth. There is no need to worry that when other fish breed, the eggs produced in the water will be eaten by the big fish. But the newly born Mickey Fish is very small and weak in defense. In order to avoid being eaten by other fish, they can be fished out and raised separately. Because the fish is too small, the salvage will be missed. It is recommended that females be placed in another tank when they are about to give birth. The newly born fry does not need to be fed, and its own yolk sac will provide sufficient nutrition. When the yolk sac disappears, it needs to be fed. It is suggested that the newly hatched brine shrimp should be used as feed. Cooked dry egg yolks can be used to feed at home.
