1. Selecting parent fish: The first step in reproducing the Bolivian phoenix fish is to select parent fish. Although they are sexually mature when they are 12 months old, in order to reproduce higher quality fry, it is better to choose healthy and energetic fish over 16 months as parent fish.
2. Prepare a breeding vat: Before breeding, prepare a breeding vat. Pour water with hardness of about 4, PH value of about 7.5 and water temperature of about 28 C into the tank, and put a flat stone slab as their spawning plate.
3. Put the parent fish into the tank: After preparing the breeding tank, you can put the selected parent fish into the tank. Maintaining the water temperature and water quality in the tank, the parent fish can reproduce and spawn by themselves.
4. Incubation of fish eggs: one day after the fish eggs are laid, the unfertilized fish eggs which become white are removed, and the rest fertilized eggs are kept. Then the water temperature is maintained at 28 degrees Celsius, and after about 55 hours, the eggs can hatch into small fish.
It takes 12 months for the Bolivian phoenix fish to become sexually mature, which means that a 12-month-old fish basically has the ability to reproduce. However, in the actual breeding time, it is recommended to choose fish over 16 months of age as parent fish. Because it produces better fry.
