There are many species of turtles similar to grass turtles, so there are many species that can cross with them. It is more common to cross with Chinese flower turtle, yellow-throated water turtle, yellow-edged closed shell turtle, etc. In addition, there are some less common hybrids, namely, three-line closed-shell turtle, yellow-forehead closed-shell turtle, Amber closed-shell turtle, saw-edge closed-shell turtle, four-eyed spotted turtle, Japanese stone turtle and so on. Although these kinds of turtles can be crossed with grass turtles, the success rate of hybridization is not high, so many breeders will choose to cross grass turtles with flower turtles or yellow-throated water turtles. Hybridization with these two kinds of turtles can not only improve the success rate of hybridization, but also improve the quality of hybridization.
2. How do grass turtles reproduceWhen grass turtles mature, they will begin to reproduce from April to August every year. Before breeding, they will choose their own mates, and after successful mating, they will complete mating in water. After successful mating, the female turtle will lay eggs from May to August every year. When grass turtles lay eggs, they first look for a wet land or sand, dig a pit, and then lay eggs in it. Female turtles can lay eggs 3-4 times a year, with 5-8 eggs each time. Breeders need to put their eggs into the incubator to ensure the stable environment in the incubator. After waiting for 50-80 days, the young turtles can hatch successfully.
