grass turtles are temperature-changing animals, and their requirements for water temperature are not very high. They can adapt to a wide range of water temperatures, and their adaptability is also relatively strong. When the water temperature is kept between 18-32 ℃, grass turtles can survive normally. To speed up their growth, breeders can use heating rods to keep the water temperature between 22-28 ℃. In this temperature range, their appetite and activity are the highest, so their growth speed is also the fastest.
Although grass turtles can accept lower water temperature, the low temperature environment will affect their appetite and activity, and long-term low temperature will also affect their growth and development, so it is best to keep the water temperature above 18 ℃ during artificial breeding.
After entering winter, the temperature is low, and the grass turtle will hibernate. When they hibernate, they don't need to control the water temperature too high. As long as the water temperature is kept at about 10 ℃-15 ℃, they can survive the winter safely.
2. How high is the water level suitable for grass turtlesThe water level suitable for grass turtles in different stages is also different. If they are young grass turtles, the water level can be controlled below the carapace. Because grass turtles in their infancy have poor swimming ability, they need to be placed in shallow water to breathe normally. With the growth of body size, the height of water level can also increase. When they are adults, the height of water level can be controlled at 1-2 times the height of carapace.
