Whether the crocodile turtles are raised well in deep water or shallow water depends on their body shape. If it is a young crocodile turtle, it is better to raise it in shallow water. Because they were born shortly, their adaptability to the environment is not strong, and their swimming ability and physical strength are insufficient, it is difficult to climb to the water quickly to take a breath. If they are raised in deep water, they are likely to choke or drown, so it is best for young snapping turtles to be raised in shallow water.
When they reach adulthood, deep-water rearing is best. Because deep-water breeding can make their carapace develop better, and it will also give them more room to move. And small crocodile turtles live in deep water when they are in the wild, so deep water culture can better simulate the native environment.
2. How to raise small snapping turtles1. Water temperature: The requirements of small snapping turtles for water temperature are not particularly high. Breeders only need to keep the water temperature between 20-33 ℃, and they can survive normally. But if you want to raise the crocodile turtle well, you can keep the water temperature between 28-30 ℃. Because their appetite and activity are the highest in this temperature range, their growth and development speed is also the fastest.
2. Water quality: The requirements of small crocodile turtles on water quality are not high, and breeders only need to ensure that the water quality is clean. Their metabolism is relatively high, so it is best for breeders to clean up food residues regularly to avoid deterioration of water quality.
3. Feeding: Crocodile turtles are omnivorous animals, but prefer meat. Breeders can use animal feed as staple food and plant feed as complementary food.
