Musk turtles belong to deep-water turtles. When they are in the wild, they live in deeper rivers or swamps, and their predation, feeding and mating are all carried out in water. Apart from climbing to the surface to bask in the sun, they rarely live in shallow water, so they are standard deep water turtles.
Although they are deep-water turtles, breeders should not keep them in too deep water, otherwise they will feel nervous and afraid, which will affect their growth and development. Moreover, the water level is too deep, which not only affects their ventilation, but also makes it troublesome to change water, so it is best for breeders to decide the height of water level according to their body shape.
2. Can musk turtles be raised in deep waterAs mentioned above, musk turtles are deep water turtles, so they can be raised in deep water, but young musk turtles are small in size, and their physical strength and swimming ability are poor, so breeders cannot put them in deep water. When they are adults, they can live in deep water. Although they can live in deep water as adults, breeders should also pay attention to the fact that the water level should not be too high, and it is best to control it between 20-30 cm.
If there is enough space in the container, you can build a balcony so that they can climb up and bask in the sun at any time. If you build a balcony, you can deepen the water level appropriately, but it can't exceed 3-4 times of the carapace.
