Map turtles like to bask in the sun. Although they are aquatic turtles, they often swim to the water's edge or lie prone on driftwood to bask in the sun when they survive in the wild. When breeding artificially, it is best to give them sunshine. Because sun exposure can not only promote the synthesis of vitamin D, but also play a role in sterilization and disinfection. Therefore, proper sun exposure can eliminate most bacteria on the carapace and avoid affecting the health of map turtles. In addition, frequent sun exposure can also enhance their resistance and immunity, and reduce their chances of getting sick.
When rearing artificially, it is necessary to build a balcony for them in the container, so that they can climb up to bask in the sun and rest anytime and anywhere. If there is not enough space, they can also be fished out and put on the ground to bask in, but avoid the fierce sunshine at noon.
2. Do map turtles need a back-drying lampIf map turtles live in a sunny environment and can get 2-3 hours of sun every day, there is no need to install a back-drying lamp. Because natural light will be more effective than light. If the environment where they are raised is not well lit and cannot meet the time for them to bask in the sun, the breeder needs to install a back lamp.
Although sunlight can replace sunlight for a short time, it cannot completely replace natural light, so it is better for breeders to give them regular sunlight.
