The water level of map turtles depends on their body shape. If they are young map turtles, the water level should be shallower. Because the map turtle in childhood lacks physical strength and is small in size, if the water level is too high, it is easy to drown, so the breeder can keep the water level at 2-3 cm of the height of the carapace. As time goes by, their size will also increase, and breeders should adjust the water level according to their size. When they are adults, their physical strength and swimming ability will be enhanced, and the height of water level can be controlled at 1-2 times the height of carapace. If the breeder builds a balcony or places driftwood in the container, the water level can be raised a little more.

Map turtles are tropical turtles, which like higher water temperature. Breeders can keep the water temperature between 26-28 ℃, so that they can develop better. If the water temperature for raising them is too low, they will have loss of appetite and activity, and they will be prone to diseases if they are raised at low temperature for a long time. If the water temperature in which they are raised is too high, their physique and health will also be affected. Therefore, when breeding map turtles, it is best to use a heating rod to keep the water temperature between 26-28 ℃. In addition, they will hibernate in winter, and breeders only need to keep the water temperature above 0 ℃.
