It is not recommended to raise spotted pond turtles in deep water. Although some spotted pond turtles can live in deep water, they can only be raised in deep water after adulthood. Young spotted pond turtles have poor swimming ability and lack of physical strength. If they are raised in deep water, they are prone to drowning and choking. Even when they are adults, breeders should not raise them in too deep water. Because their carapace is heavy, it is difficult to swim from the deep water bottom to the water surface in adulthood, so it is best not to raise them in too deep water.
For juvenile spotted pond turtles, the height of water level can be controlled above the carapace. With the increase of their size, the height of water level can gradually increase. In adulthood, the water temperature of spotted pond turtle can be controlled at 1-5 times of the height of carapace, preferably not more than 5 times.
