The first step in opening a fish tank is disinfection. No matter it is a new fish tank or an old fish tank, it can only be used safely after disinfection. The raw material for disinfection is potassium permanganate, which is poured into the tank after filling with water, soaked for several hours and then drained, and then washed with clean water several times to ensure that there is no drug residue.
After the completion of disinfection, the next step is to test the equipment in the bathtub to see if the oxygen pump and filtration system can be used, and at the same time to check the heating system, because if you raise tropical fish, you need to ensure that the water in the tank is at a constant temperature. No problem, you can fill it with water, and then open the oxygen pump for 24 hours to explode oxygen.
After a day of oxygen explosion, the next step is to prepare for bacterial culture. Add nitrifying bacteria to the fish tank. If the water is still relatively clear at this time, you can also put a little fish food and other organic matter, when they are decomposed by heterotrophic bacteria, they will produce ammonia nitrogen, which is the necessary raw material for culturing nitrifying bacteria.
In the process of cultivating bacteria, the water quality will first become turbid, and then return to clear, at this time you can put the fish to test the water. Generally, you can put two or three fish in the tank and let them explore the bottom first. As long as they can live for more than half a month, it means that the tank has been opened successfully. At this time, you can put the fish you want to raise. If the fish in the tank dies, you need to open the tank again.
