Generally speaking, the grass turtle will not enter the sexual maturity period until it is five years old, and can only carry out reproductive behavior. The grass turtle belongs to a kind of poikilothermic animal, its various physiological activities are closely related to the change of temperature, with the increase of temperature, about 22 to 28 degrees Celsius is the peak of its activities.
After entering the sexual maturity period, the male and female turtles usually mate in April every year, so they can also choose April to mate in the breeding process. The mating process usually takes place in the water, and the eggs are laid between May and August every year, and when the hatching is over, the turtles can be born.
After mating, the tortoise can lay eggs within a month or so. Generally speaking, eggs will be laid from May to August. The female tortoise will lay eggs three to four times a year, and each time can lay up to a dozen eggs. The peak time of laying eggs is from May to July, and the interval between each nest varies from half a month to one month. Before the tortoises lay their eggs, the owners need to prepare a hatching box in advance. The box can be filled with disinfected sand, and can also be equipped with some thermometers and hygrometers to adjust according to the situation at any time. After about 80 days of hatching, a baby tortoise will be born.
