Seals are a common aquatic mammal that live in the ocean. Seals have some outstanding features that can be used to distinguish whether an animal is a seal or not, and can also be distinguished from other similar animals. Ears are an important feature of seals. Because the outer ears of seals have deteriorated, seals actually have no outer ears, that is to say, they do not have ear pinnae. It can be distinguished from a sea lion by the presence or absence of an outer ear, because sea lions have outer ears.
However, it cannot be said that seals do not have ears, because seals also have two ear holes, that is, inner ears. If we look closely at seals, we will find their ear holes on the sides of their heads, just behind their eyes. Their ear holes are still relatively large and very obvious.
As mentioned above, due to the deterioration of the seal's outer ear, they do not have an outer ear, only an ear hole, that is, the inner ear. The structure of the inner ear makes it difficult for seals to enter water when swimming. In addition, seals can control the opening and closing of their inner ears freely when swimming, so that seals will not have water in their ears.
