It is possible for a turtle to drown. Although most turtles can swim, swimming in the water for a long time will consume too much strength, and it also needs to breathe on the surface, so it may drown in deep water. Especially for young turtles, this is more likely to happen, so do not use deep water to raise young turtles, to slowly increase the water level.
1. Get it out in time: Usually, it is relatively rare for a terrapin to drown, but a tortoise or a semi-terrapin has no webbing on its feet, so the risk of drowning is relatively high, and it is very easy to occur when bathing. After discovering this situation, the first thing to do is to fish it out of the water in time, otherwise it may drown.
2. Treatment: First, put the tortoise upside down and tail up, gently shake or vibrate its back armor, so that it can empty the water in the respiratory tract. Then turn it over and put it on the ground, so that its back armor down, the same or to vibrate, to discharge the remaining water in the lungs. Finally, let it lie on its stomach in a normal position, alternately pulling its forelimbs until it resumes breathing.
3. Follow-up maintenance: Generally, if the drowning situation is not serious, there is a chance to save it. After that, let it rest for a period of time, in order to be on the safe side, do not use deep water feeding, so as to avoid similar situations, wait until it slowly recovers, and then see if it needs to raise the depth of water.
