Most fish rely on the gills to breathe, when the fish leave the water, the gills will be dry, and will stick together, inhibit breathing, leading to its death. But the mudskipper is not, its gill cavity is very large, and the gill cover is sealed, which can store a lot of air. At the same time, its skin is very thin, there are a large number of blood vessels, can complete gas exchange in the air, the tail can also play a role in assisting breathing, so it can live on land for a long time without water.
The mudskipper will also jump up the tree when hunting. Its pectoral fins are well developed, and its tail fin is relatively strong, so it can make long jumps by beating the water or the ground. And there are suckers on the pectoral fins, which can be attached to objects immediately after jumping, so they can climb up trees step by step to catch insects.
The eyes of the mudskipper are located on the top of the head and are very prominent, which is conducive to observing the surrounding situation, especially whether there are birds and other natural enemies in the sky, so as to better avoid danger. Moreover, it is also conducive to finding insects in high places and hunting.
Mudskippers can build their own burrows on the beach, usually 50-70 cm deep. The cave can avoid the attack of birds, avoid some large fish when the tide is high, and even serve as a nursery, but because of the lack of oxygen in the cave, two fishermen need to constantly swallow oxygen to move into the cave.
