Most turtles will be more active in summer, because as the temperature rises, their metabolism speeds up, so they will be more active and eat more. But some tortoises also have the property of aestivation, usually when the temperature exceeds 35 degrees Celsius, the high temperature will cause it to enter aestivation. But for terrapins, aestivation is relatively rare, and the main reason for their immobility is disease.
1. Change water regularly: When raising turtles in summer, the first thing to do is to speed up the water change cycle. Because the turtle eats more at this time, the amount of excretion will increase, if the water is not changed in time, the water quality will deteriorate, leading to it suffering from diseases. After each feeding, the water should be changed every few hours, the water must be changed completely, and the temperature of the new water and the old water should be the same.
2. Feeding food: The tortoise must be fed. As the temperature rises, its appetite will be more vigorous. Usually according to the different feeding habits of turtles, feeding food is not the same, most of them are mainly fresh fish and shrimp, but also with vegetables, regularly supplement a little calcium powder.
3. Pay attention to sunning the back: The tortoise also needs to sun the back in summer. Usually, the time for sunning the back is about half an hour. However, it is necessary to avoid strong light at noon. At the same time, it is better to have water around it, so as to prevent it from dehydration caused by high temperature and strong light.
