Different species of turtles have different egg hatching times. Terrapins hatch faster, generally averaging 60-85 days, tortoises need 70-100 days, and some turtles hatch longer, about 100-160 days. After laying eggs, the first step is to check the fertilization situation, remove the unfertilized eggs, and then incubate the remaining eggs artificially.
1. Look at the shell: The easiest way to know whether a turtle egg is fertilized is to look at the shell. Usually turtle eggs in the production of 1-3 days will appear white spots, which shows that turtle eggs are fertilized eggs, if not fertilized, the appearance will not have any performance. In addition, the transparency of fertilized eggs is higher than that of non-fertilized eggs, while non-fertilized eggs are white.
2, look at the blood: turtle eggs in the production of 24 hours later, take it up, put it under the light, or with a flashlight, if you can see there is blood, that is fertilized eggs. This inspection method will be more obvious after 72 hours of egg production, and the accuracy of judging fertilization is relatively high.
3. Look at the female turtle: For a female turtle, if it digs a pit before laying eggs and lays eggs inside, it is generally said to have been fertilized. If it is laid directly into the water, it is not fertilized. It should be noted that if the tortoise does not find a good nesting site before laying eggs, it will also lay eggs in the water.
