There are many species of soft-shelled turtles, totaling more than 20 species. Turtle is the common name of turtle, they are also called ball fish, water fish and so on. They belong to amphibians. In China, the common species are Chinese soft-shelled turtle, mountain soft-shelled turtle and spot soft-shelled turtle. Different species of soft-shelled turtles have different shapes and characteristics.

There are many turtle varieties, such as Asian turtle, Indian turtle, Malay turtle, Chinese turtle, spotted turtle, etc. The characteristics of some different varieties are introduced in detail below.

1. Asian turtle: The head of Asian turtle is relatively large. Adult Asian turtle has hinged structure on its carapace, and likes to hide under large pebbles along the stream.

2. Indian turtle: The head of Indian turtle is small and its soft kiss is short. Their carapace is oblong, their belly is flat, and their color is milky white.

3. Malay turtle: The obvious feature of Malay turtle is that its snout is like a pig, and the color of its carapace is generally gray-green and olive. It has black spots or stripes in its infancy, but it will disappear with time.

4. Chinese soft-shelled turtle: Chinese soft-shelled turtle is mainly distributed in China, and it is a common kind of soft-shelled turtle in China, especially in Jiangxi, Anhui, Hunan and Hubei.

5. Spotted turtles: The number of wild spotted turtles is small, and they are difficult to reproduce, so the number is extremely small. At present, the known survival number of spotted turtles is 4, of which 2 are in Suzhou Zoo and the other 2 are in Hoenkin Lake, Vietnam.
