1. Spine hippocampus: The spine hippocampus is about 15-20 cm long, the snout tube is long, the spines in each joints and head of the body are obvious, the body color is light yellow, and the tips of spines are black. It inhabits seaweed clusters in the inner bay and swims slowly. It is carnivorous and feeds on small invertebrates.

2. Three-spotted hippocampus: The length of three-spotted hippocampus is generally 10-17 cm, with a small head, five short spines on the top of the head, and a short snout tube, which is generally half or one third of the head. It has strong fecundity, rapid growth, shallow habitat waters, and the water depth is within 50 ~ 60 meters.

3. Big hippocampus: Big hippocampus is common in Guangdong coastal areas and Hainan Island, with a body length of 20-30 cm, a low crown and five short spines on the top of the head. It is an offshore warm water fish. It inhabits the sea area with clear water and algae. Swimming slowly, sometimes horizontally, sometimes vertically, often winding the curly tail around seaweed and other bodies.
