Soft-shelled turtles can't breathe in water, although they are called soft-shelled turtles, they can also live in water. But they are quite different from fish. They breathe with their lungs, and their breathing organs are in their throats, so they need to stick their whole head and neck out of the water so that they can breathe. Under normal circumstances, soft-shelled turtles take a breath every hour or so. Their water quality is better, but we should also pay attention to the height of water level, otherwise they may drown.
2. The water level of soft-shelled turtles is appropriateThe height of water level of soft-shelled turtles is different at different stages. The size of soft-shelled turtles in infancy is relatively small. When breeding, it is necessary to pay attention to the fact that the water level should not be too deep, and it is best to control it within 20 cm. In infancy, soft-shelled turtles are weak in physical strength and poor in adaptability, so the height of water level should not be too deep.
When they reach adulthood, the water level can be controlled between 30-50 cm. Because the adult turtle is bigger and stronger, the water level of breeding should be appropriately increased. If a balcony is installed, the water level can be higher. But they need to float to the surface regularly to breathe fresh air, so the height of the water level should not exceed 60 cm. Otherwise, turtles may choke and drown.
