Razor turtles are deep-water turtles because they like to move in deep water very much and their swimming ability is relatively strong. In addition, they all eat in water and rarely swim to the water. Wild razor turtles live in calm deep water and belong to highly aquatic turtles.
Razor turtles are raised in captivity, and the height of water level can be determined according to their size. The water level of razor turtle in childhood should not be too deep, but should be controlled at 2-3 times the height of carapace. Because the razor turtle in childhood has poor physical strength, if the water level is too high, it may choke. As they grow in size, the height of water level can also increase. In adulthood, the height of water level can be controlled at about 1m. If conditions permit, a circulating filtration system can be installed to ensure clean water quality.
2. Can razor turtles spend the winter in deep waterIf razor turtles are not allowed to hibernate, they do not need to be reared in shallow water. Because they don't hibernate when they are in the country of origin, if the breeder can keep the water temperature above 20 ℃, then they don't need to lower the water level to raise them.
If the breeder needs to hibernate the razor turtle, the water level should be adjusted shallower. Because they don't move during hibernation, if the water level is too deep, they may drown. Therefore, when hibernating, it is best to control the height of water level below the carapace, which can not only ensure that their living environment is humid, but also reduce choking.
