Grass tortoises and Brazilian tortoises should not be raised together, because they are not similar in character, growth rate, body shape and food, so they are not suitable for polyculture together.
Grass turtles are gentle in character. They usually like to stay in the corner and bask in the sun. Under normal circumstances, they will not take the initiative to attack other turtles. And when they are frightened or attacked, they will retract into their shells. Brazilian tortoises are lively and like to crawl around in containers. Sometimes they are irritable, so Brazilian tortoises raised together may harass grass turtles.
The growth rate of grass turtles is slow, and most of them are about 18-20 cm in size after adulthood. Brazilian tortoises grow rapidly, and their body length is about 20-30 cm in adulthood. If they are raised together, Brazilian tortoises may bully grass tortoises.
The food of grass turtles and Brazilian tortoises is also different. Grass turtles prefer vegetarian food in adulthood, while Brazilian tortoises prefer meat in adulthood. If the two are raised together, it is troublesome to feed food.
