Young razor turtles can be raised well in shallow water, because they are more suitable for raising in shallow water in their infancy, and they are not born soon and have weak swimming ability. Although the water quality is good, the physical strength is poor, and it is difficult to live in deep water. If they are bred in deep water rashly, they may choke or drown, so it is best to raise razor turtles in shallow water in childhood.
But when the razor turtle is an adult, it is difficult to raise it well in shallow water. Because their carapace is special and the ridge in the middle is high, if they are raised in shallow water, their carapace may be deformed. Long-term shallow water culture may have a great impact on their health, so it is difficult to raise razor turtles in shallow water when they are adults.
2. What is the appropriate water level for razor turtlesAlthough razor turtles are deep-water turtles, they need different water levels at different growth stages. Generally speaking, the water level of young razor turtles can be shallower, and the highest level should not exceed 1 time of the height of the carapace. As they grow in size, the water level at which they are raised will also increase. When they are adults, the height of water level can be controlled between 60 and 100 cm.
Because of the deep water level, it is necessary to install a circulating filtration system to ensure their clean water quality. It is best to change water 1-2 times a week, and clean up food residues and feces after each feeding.
