Musk turtles are cold-water turtles, because they are native to high latitudes such as the northeast to southeast of the United States and the south of Canada, and were later introduced into Asia, and their cold resistance is relatively strong, so they belong to cold-water turtles.
Although musk turtles belong to cold water turtles, it is best not to raise them in cold water when cultured artificially. Because the water temperature is lower than 20 ℃, their appetite and activity will decrease, and their resistance and immunity will also decrease, so it is best for breeders not to use cold water to breed them. For farmed musk turtles, the water temperature needs to be raised to above 20 ℃, so as to avoid their illness.
2. How much is the water temperature suitable for musk turtlesAlthough musk turtles belong to cold water turtles, they prefer to live in a warm environment, and the water temperature should be kept above 20 ℃ when rearing artificially. If conditions permit, the water temperature can be kept between 25-30 ℃, so that their metabolism will be faster and their growth will be faster. However, in winter, musk turtles will hibernate, so breeders do not need to keep the water temperature above 20 ℃. Just keep the water temperature at 0-5 ℃ after they go into hibernation. If conditions permit, musk turtles can also be transferred indoors, so that they can spend the winter safely.
