Flame tortoise seedlings cannot be raised in deep water, because they breathe with their lungs, so they need to float to the water regularly to take a breath before they can live normally. The young flame turtle was born shortly, with insufficient physical strength, short limbs and weak swimming ability. If they are raised in deep water, it is difficult to float to the water quickly to take a breath, and they may run out of physical strength on the way upstream. Flame tortoise seedlings are small in size, so breeders need to control their water level below their carapace, so as to ensure that they can move and breathe normally and avoid choking or drowning.

Flame turtles are amphibian turtles, so the water level raised does not need to be too deep, especially for young flame turtles, the water level must not be too high, otherwise it is difficult for them to swim to the water surface for air. The water level of the young flame turtle can be controlled below or just below the carapace, so that the flame turtle can breathe fresh air as soon as it looks up.

Although the flame turtles have sufficient physical strength and improved swimming ability in adulthood, breeders should not use too deep water for a long time, otherwise their activities will be limited. If breeders want to raise in deep water, they need to build a balcony or gentle slope in the container so that they can swim to the water quickly.
