Flame turtles are not recommended to stay in the water for a long time. Although they are water turtles and can rest in the water, their breathing and reproduction need to be carried out on land, so they cannot live in the water all the time, not only to lay eggs, but also to float to the water regularly for air.
When flame turtles are raised artificially, the water body is generally small, and the water pollution rate is relatively fast. If flame turtles live in water for a long time, their carapace is likely to be infected with bacteria. If conditions permit, breeders can build a balcony for them, so that they can float to the water at any time to rest and bask in the sun.
2. Can flame turtles be raised in deep waterYoung flame turtles can't be raised in deep water, because they are just born, weak in physical strength, poor in physique and weak in disease resistance. If they are raised in deep water, they are likely to choke or drown. It is best for breeders to keep the water level above or just below the carapace.
Although adult flame turtles can be raised with deeper water, the water level should not be too deep, and can be controlled at 1-2 times the height of their carapace. If you want to raise them in deep water, it is recommended to build a balcony or gentle slope, so that they can quickly climb to the water to breathe.
