It usually takes about 5 years for Buddha snapping turtles to mature. After they mature, they will mate from April to September every year. Before mating, the male will climb on the back of the female. At the beginning, the female will climb or move. After the male slides down, it will climb up again, and this will be repeated back and forth until the female stops moving. Male turtles pedal before and after mating, hook the female turtle's carapace with their front feet, and then put their genitals into the female turtle's release hole to complete mating. During mating, male turtles will stretch their heads straight and sway from side to side, and some Buddha crocodile turtles will confront each other from nostril to nostril.
After successful mating, female turtles will start laying eggs in June. When they lay eggs, they will climb to the shore, find an open place, dig a hole, lay eggs in the hole, and wait for them to hatch
2. What should be paid attention to in breedingBefore mating, female turtles and male turtles should not be raised together to avoid biting their genitals and affecting their normal mating. Breeders can keep females and males separately, and then put different females in turn, which can improve the fertilization rate.
When mating, breeders need to observe carefully. If female turtles are found to be bitten, they need to stop mating immediately and keep them in isolation.
