Dolphins are creatures that live in the water. In the process of observing them, we may find many interesting phenomena. For example, if you often observe them, you will think that they like to chase ships and swim in the eddy currents generated by ships, and sometimes dolphins will even look for larger animals and swim in the wake waves generated by them. There are many similar phenomena.
As mentioned above, we may observe the phenomenon of dolphins chasing ships, which makes researchers very interested. After the study, it was found that the dolphins made this behavior mainly for the following reasons:
1. Power swimming: Dolphins are recognized as very fast swimming animals. They swim fast not only because their swimming skills are very good, but also partly because they know how to use power. Dolphins swim into the ship's vortex, where the water pressure makes it easier for them to swim, even when they hardly need to swing their tails. Researchers in the study found that in the process of swimming by force, the dolphin's breathing rate decreased significantly, which shows that the force will be more labor-saving.
2. More food: Sometimes the fish that the dolphins follow are fishing boats. At this time, there is more food for the dolphins to eat, and the dolphins will be attracted. Even if the boat is not a fishing boat, it is easy for them to stir some fish and plankton in the water to the vicinity of the boat when they pass, which will attract dolphins.
3. Misidentification: When swimming in the water, dolphins emit ultrasonic waves and reflect them to determine whether there are similar dolphins around. When these ultrasonic waves encounter the sonar of a ship, dolphins may mistake their own kind and chase the ship.
