Gill rot disease: Koi have been drinking water on the surface of the water, it may be infected with bacteria in the gills, resulting in gill rot disease. If it is not serious, you can use salt or baking soda to give the sick fish a medicinal bath. If the situation is more serious, you need to use malachite green to give the sick fish a medicinal bath. | | Anoxia: Too little dissolved oxygen in the water, too high feeding density, poor water quality and other reasons can also cause anoxia in Koi. In this case, breeders need to change water and oxygen in time to ensure sufficient dissolved oxygen in water.
Why does the koi keep drinking on the surface of the water? What should I do?

1. Gill rot disease

1. Cause: Koi carp has been drinking water on the surface of the water. It may be that the gills are infected with bacteria, causing gill rot disease. Koi will have discomfort after gill infection, and they will relieve the discomfort by drinking water.

2. Treatment: If the gill rot is not serious, the breeder can dissolve salt mixed with baking soda in water and give the sick fish a medicated bath once a day for 15-20 minutes each time. Change water frequently during the period to ensure clean water quality. If the gill rot disease is serious, the breeder needs to use 0.7 grams of malachite green, dissolve it in 10 kilograms of water, and give the sick fish a medicinal bath for 15-30 minutes every day. After the gill rot is relieved, the koi will not float on the surface of the water all the time, but the breeder also needs to change the water regularly and turn on the filtration system to ensure the water quality.

2. Hypoxia

1. Cause: The feeding density in the fish tank is too high, the dissolved oxygen in the water is too low, the water quality is too poor, and the temperature is too high, which can cause the lack of oxygen in the koi. When deprived of oxygen, Koi fish take a gulp of breath on the surface of the water, which looks like they are drinking water.

2. Treatment: The breeder can reduce the feeding density, turn on the oxygen pump to ensure sufficient dissolved oxygen in the water, or change a small amount of water to increase the dissolved oxygen in the water. When the temperature is high, the breeder can turn on the oxygen pump for 24 hours.
