Hibernation: Brazilian tortoises may be hibernating if they don't open their eyes. Generally, when the temperature is below 15 degrees Celsius, they will enter hibernation. Breeders do not need to worry about this situation, but only need to ensure that the environment is stable. | | White eye disease: It is also possible to suffer from white eye disease. The main reason for white eye disease is that the water quality is too poor or alkaline. The breeder needs to change the water immediately and ensure that the water quality is neutral. If the condition is serious, it can be treated with potassium permanganate solution or oxytetracycline bath.
Why doesn't the Brazilian tortoise open its eyes? What should I do?

1. Hibernation

1. Reason: The Brazilian tortoise will keep its eyes closed during hibernation. The breeder can judge whether the Brazilian tortoise has entered hibernation according to the surrounding temperature. Generally, when the temperature is below 15 C, they begin to hibernate, and when the temperature is below 6 C, they will enter deep hibernation.

2. Solution: If there are no other abnormal conditions, the breeder does not need to intervene. It does not need to change water or feed at ordinary times, as long as the surrounding environment is stable and the heat preservation is strengthened when the temperature is below 0 C.

2. White eye disease

1. Cause: Brazilian tortoises may suffer from white eye disease if they do not open their eyes all the time. This disease is mainly caused by deterioration of water quality or alkaline water quality. If the illness is relatively mild, you can barely open your eyes to eat. If the condition is severe, the tortoise will stop eating and not open its eyes at all. If not treated in time, there will be erosion or inflammation of the eyes.

2. Solution: If the symptoms are not serious, the breeder only needs to bathe with furacilin powder. The dosage for young Brazilian turtles is 20 mg per liter of water, and for adult Brazilian turtles is 30 mg per liter of water. Medicated bath for 40 minutes every day for a week, you can recover. If the symptoms are serious, they need to take a bath with penicillin or oxytetracycline, and apply anti-inflammatory ointment around the eyes, and ensure that the surrounding environment is dim.
