The western painted turtle is a kind of terrapin, and they are also a kind of painted turtle. Generally speaking, the water of the tortoise is good, and the water of the western tortoise is better, and the swimming ability is stronger. Wild western tortoises are mainly distributed in streams, rivers and lakes, and they will stay at the bottom of the silt-rich location, relatively deep. As for the breeds bred in captivity, they can also be bred in deeper water.
Although the western painted turtle can live in deeper water, when they are still relatively young, that is, when they are young, their water performance will be worse than that of adults, and they can be raised in shallower water at this time.
As mentioned above, when raising the western tortoise in captivity, they can live in deep water. Specifically, how high the water level is needs to be adjusted according to their carapace height. When they are in the juvenile stage, it is better to keep them in shallow water, not too deep, just above their back armor, and of course not too shallow, so that their back armor is not exposed to the air. After they grow up, they will be better at swimming and have stronger swimming ability, at this time, they can be bred in deeper water, the water level can be controlled at 3-5 times the height of their carapace, and there is no need to be too high.
Furthermore, it should be noted that some of the more important activities of the western tortoise are to be carried out in the water, such as basking in the sun and so on, and they should not be allowed to stay in the water for a long time. Therefore, the drying platform is more necessary and can be prepared before breeding.
