The snapping turtle is very young, especially when it is in the juvenile stage, it is impossible to distinguish between male and female, because the distinguishing characteristics of male and female are not significant at this time. At least when their body length grows to about 30 centimeters, they can distinguish between male and female. Specifically, it can be distinguished from the following three aspects:
1. The difference of plastron: The plastron of male turtle and female turtle is very different. You can look at their plastron, if there are obvious depression marks, then it is a male turtle. If it looks flat and smooth, then it is a female turtle.
2. Tail difference: The tails of male and female turtles are also very different. You can observe the size of their tails, the tails of male turtles are generally longer and thicker. The female tortoise, on the other hand, is shorter and smaller.
3. Difference of excretory holes: First, the difference in the shape of their excretory holes. The excretory hole of the female turtle is round, while the excretory hole of the male turtle is long and thin. It is easy to observe the difference. In addition, the distance between the vent and the plastron is also different. The excretory hole of male turtle is far from the plastron, while the excretory hole of female turtle is close to the plastron.
When alligator turtles are still relatively young, male and female turtles can be raised together. However, it is better not to keep them together after they are adult and large. First, their size is relatively large, put together, then need a very large container, otherwise the space will be insufficient, is not conducive to their growth and development. In addition, after adulthood, their character is more lively, sometimes very fierce, if they have been raised together, they are easy to fight.
