When raising snapping turtles, attention should be paid to regulating and controlling the water level. To control the water level properly, we need to know whether they are deep water turtles or not. Wild turtles generally live in deeper waters, they often stay in the water, generally do not come to shore. But in general, they are well adapted to both deep and shallow water.
If you want to raise artificially, you can also use deep water to raise, but the water does not need to be too deep. Otherwise, it will be more troublesome to change the water, and it will be more troublesome to let the alligator turtle out of the water. But the water level should not be too low, so that the water level does not fall below their back shell. Generally speaking, the optimum water level is between two or three times the height of their back shell. When farming, we can pay attention to regulation and control, and the water level can rise with the increase of their size.
Dry and water are two different ways of raising turtles. The snapping turtle belongs to a kind of terrapin, so it is better to use the way of water culture if it is cultured. It is better not to keep them dry, so that they can grow slowly in a very dry environment, which is not conducive to their growth and development. If you must try dry rearing, then you need to let the snapping turtle stay in the water for a period of time every day, at least half an hour.
However, there are some special periods when dry rearing is recommended, such as when the snapping turtle is sick. In the course of medication, they need to be dry raised and can not be kept in water. After they are healthy, they can be put back into the water to resume normal maintenance.
