Generally speaking, if the crocodile turtle is raised in captivity, the mother turtle will be sexually mature at about 3 years old and have the ability to reproduce. If the breeding method is more appropriate, that is, the environment is more suitable, the food contains more nutrients, then the mother turtle may be sexually mature at about 2 years old, with the ability to lay eggs. However, if you choose a crocodile turtle that is too young to breed, the effect of reproduction will not be good, because the number of eggs laid by the mother turtle is small, and the eggs are not easy to hatch. Therefore, it is better to use larger snapping turtles to breed.
However, the age of sexual maturity of wild snapping turtles and captive breeding snapping turtles is different. Wild species generally mature later. Sometimes they need to be 40,000 years old before they have the ability to reproduce, and sometimes they will be even later.
The reproductive capacity of snapping turtles is very strong, they lay eggs every time the number of times is very large. Under normal conditions, that is, when they are in the right environment, they will lay between 20 and 90 eggs. And they can lay eggs more than once a year. However, specifically, the number of eggs they lay each time is not certain, and sometimes the difference is relatively large. For example, young snapping turtles, or turtles that have never laid eggs before, will lay relatively few eggs.
