Ornamental turtles are basically omnivorous animals. Terrapins prefer animal bait, but in order to supplement some nutrition, they also need to feed melons, fruits and vegetables. Tortoises are mainly vegetables, with a small amount of meat. Take the Brazilian turtle as an example, the feed can choose fish, pork and animal viscera, but also can be fed with water earthworms or yellow mealworms, or feed tea, rice and so on.
Feeding the ornamental tortoise must be done regularly and quantitatively, because its appetite will be affected by temperature, high temperature and low temperature will appear not to eat. Therefore, in general, spring and autumn need to be fed at noon, while summer needs to be fed in the morning or afternoon. For young turtles, they should be fed once a day, but adult turtles do not need to be fed every day, usually once every 3-5 days, or once a week.
After feeding the ornamental turtle, it is necessary to clean up the residual bait, which is easy to deteriorate after a long time, and it is easy to get sick after eating it. In addition, for some fast excretion varieties, but also in a few hours after feeding, the water will be emptied and re-released to maintain clean and hygienic water quality.
If you feed too much food to the ornamental turtle, or feed some inappropriate food, it will cause gastroenteritis. If the symptoms are mild, you can use Lactobacillus tablets, severe diarrhea, it is necessary to use antibiotics, the general choice for nitro files, metronidazole can also be used.
