The normal life span of the black shell shrimp is about 18 months, which is not too long. If the breeding environment is good, they may live for about two years, but their life span will not be longer. Their life span is related to genes, breeding environment and other factors. Individuals with good genes will live longer in a suitable environment. Individuals with poor genes will have a much shorter life span in a relatively poor environment.
Generally, after 2-3 months of growth, the black shell shrimp has the ability to reproduce and can give birth to shrimp. Some early maturing individuals only need to grow for more than a month before they can be used for reproduction. Their growth rate is relatively fast, only 2-3mm long at birth, and after 2-3 months of growth, they can grow to 1.5-2cm.
Black shell shrimp like to breed in water temperature of 24-26 ℃. The speed of their reproduction has a great relationship with water temperature. When the water temperature is low, they need more than 20 days to hatch eggs, and they can reproduce every 40 days or so. When the water temperature is 26 C, they only need 13-14 days to hatch eggs, and they can reproduce every 30 days or so. Therefore, if you want them to reproduce quickly, it is more recommended to keep the water temperature at about 26 degrees Celsius.
